5 Basic Child Safety Tips For Parents
Child Safety Tip #1: Medicine Safety
To ensure child safety we have to keep all medicines out of the reach of children. Generally we all need one type of medicine or the other at some point in our lives. Some medicines help us to recover from sicknesses and diseases. Others help to protect us from sicknesses and diseases. When medicines are administered properly by a responsible adult they can be very helpful and beneficial indeed. However, in the hands of children medicines can be very harmful and deadly. We should not take any risks with our children. At all times we should see to it that we have personally put all medicines safely out of the reach of our children.

Child Safety Tip #2: Kitchen Safety
The kitchen is a great place for food and nourishment, wonderful meals and superb cuisine, family time and happy memories. Unfortunately it can also be a place of serious domestic accidents unless of course we maintain proper safety measures all the time. There is a potential danger to our children from fire, hot liquids, utensils, appliances etc in every kitchen. Therefore we must remember to keep an eye on our children whenever they are with us in the kitchen. For the sake of child safety no child should be left unattended in any kitchen for even one minute.

Child Safety Tip #3: Electrical Safety
We have to teach our children about electrical safety at an early age to help protect them from any harm. All children need to be taught some basic rules about electricity safety such as: Do not unplug any device by pulling the cord – instead hold the plug and remove it gently from the socket; Do not handle any electrical appliance when your hands are wet – first you have to dry your hands before you handle the appliance; Do not stick your finger or any object into any electrical socket or outlet – the current in the socket will pass through you and harm you. As part of our child safety efforts we need to patiently teach our children these and many other rules about electrical safety at home.

Child Safety Tip #4: Fire Safety
We have to teach our children about the danger of playing with fire. This must be an on-going child safety education since potential fire hazards are easily available in almost all homes. Further to that we must teach our children what to do in case of any fire outbreak at home. We must go through the mock fire drill with them and show them the best escape route to the chosen safe spot outside the house where the whole family will gather in case of any fire. It is best to teach children about fire safety before the need ever arises.

Child Safety Tip #5: Internet Safety
The benefits of the internet are too numerous to be counted. At times we marvel and wonder how we survived in the past without websites, emails, instant messaging, video chats and a host of other internet applications. Nevertheless these benefits should not cause us to forget or ignore the looming danger to our children from predators and bullies on the internet. Among other things we have to teach our children not to give any personal information such as their names, phone numbers, names of their parents, street address, school location etc to any stranger on the internet. We must assure our children that in case of any doubt or uncertainty about any matter concerning internet safety they can always contact us for guidance and advice.
